When I started at Credit Karma, the personal loans and credit cards vertical was the money maker. It still is, because we’re excellent at advertising and for other business reasons that are probably even more compelling.
However, we’d never made product-specific video before—so there was a whole lot riding on these first digital spots. They did gangbusters, so we were able to extend the concepts post-covid with a bigger TV shoot.
For credit cards, the concept was simple. This is the easiest way to find a new card.
And for loans, we wanted to communicate that Credit Karma takes the stress out of emergencies because finding a loan is so simple.
Originally, this script called for someone to be scuba diving in their flooded basement. Apparently that is “too expensive” and “we already let you explode a bunch of TVs last year” and honestly, the dinner party turned out really fun. I just wanted you to know that a flooded basement could have been really great too.
